Content Maker

About the Team

OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood as it leaves the lab and meets the world.

This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.

About the Role

We’re looking for a San Francisco-based Content Maker to create social-first, platform-native content across OpenAI’s brand and product work. This role is for someone who can spot a good story, go capture it, and turn it into something sharp, clear, and engaging.

You’ll be hands-on across the full content process: ideating, shooting, scripting, editing, and publishing-ready execution. This could include filming behind-the-scenes moments, capturing quick interviews, making short-form videos, editing social cuts, building lightweight content series, or helping translate complex ideas into formats that feel human and easy to understand.

The right person has strong taste, moves quickly, knows how to shoot and edit, and understands how content behaves across social and digital platforms. You should be comfortable making work directly, not just directing it, and available to capture content in person in San Francisco as needed.

In this role, you will:

  • Create social-first content across digital, editorial, and platform-native surfaces

  • Shoot, capture, and edit short-form video, interviews, behind-the-scenes content, and lightweight storytelling formats

  • Identify content opportunities in real time and move quickly to capture or create around them

  • Turn complex ideas, product moments, and company stories into clear, engaging content

  • Work hands-on across ideation, scripting, filming, editing, and execution

  • Develop platform-native concepts for social posts, reels, stories, creator-style content, and lightweight editorial

  • Partner with producers, designers, copywriters, marketers, and cross-functional teams to bring content from idea to final asset

  • Help shape narrative arcs across short-form and always-on content

  • Adapt tone, format, and pacing for different audiences and platforms

  • Stay close to internet culture, platform behaviors, social trends, and emerging formats to keep the work fresh and relevant

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Are based in San Francisco and available for in-person content capture as needed

  • Understand short-form video, social storytelling, pacing, hooks, and platform behavior

  • Are a true maker, comfortable shooting, editing, scripting, and building content directly

  • Have strong creative instincts and can quickly turn ideas into compelling content

  • Have experience creating content for social, digital, and platform-native environments

  • Know how to capture real moments and shape them into clear, engaging stories

  • Can balance speed, quality, and taste in a fast-moving environment

  • Have strong judgment around what feels culturally relevant, brand-right, and worth making

  • Are comfortable working independently and jumping in when there’s something to capture

  • Collaborate well with producers, designers, copywriters, marketers, creators, and external partners

  • Have a strong point of view on storytelling, internet culture, and how brands should show up in the world

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
