Job Description
Overnight Skills Counselors in LUK’s Residential Services are important members of the team that work with youth placed in LUK’s congregate care programs during overnight hours. In this role, staff maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment while fostering therapeutic relationships with youth.
Overnight Skills Counselors are responsible for providing consistent supervision throughout the night, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. This includes completing routine bed checks, responding to youth needs, and maintaining a calm, trauma-informed milieu that promotes rest and stability. While the overnight shift has a reduced activity schedule, Skills Counselors continue to reinforce skill development by supporting youth in routines related to hygiene, sleep, and independent living skills, in alignment with individual treatment plans and the program model.
Staff are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and home-like environment, including completing light housekeeping tasks and supporting the overall upkeep of the residence. Overnight staff also play a critical role in preparing the program for the following day, including documentation, organization of materials, and communication with incoming staff.
Skills Counselors manage crises that may arise, with the support of the staff team. It is imperative that staff use appropriate language and tone when setting expectations and limits for clients. All staff must maintain appropriate therapeutic and professional boundaries with residents.
Throughout all tasks, timely and accurate documentation is required. Staff must comply with all contractual, licensing, and safety standards and maintain current certifications for CPR/First Aid and CPI – non-violent crisis intervention. Training is provided
The qualified candidate will preferably have an Associate’s degree in a human service field and 1-5 years of experience in a residential setting. Successful candidates will possess excellent client care and verbal intervention skills. Excellent communication and computer skills are an asset. Valid driver’s license required.
This is a full-time position located in North Central Massachusetts. Work will take place within the residential setting and within the community. Community-based travel is expected. Bilingual/bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply.

Purpose:
Overnight Skills Counselors provide consistent supervision while developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with youth. They ensure a safe, structured, and supportive overnight environment that aligns with each youth’s individual treatment plan, as well as the program’s model and philosophy.
Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain the safety and well-being of each resident throughout overnight hours, including completing routine bed checks and responding to youth needs
- Maintain a calm, trauma-informed therapeutic milieu that promotes rest, stability, and a sense of safety
- Provide a safe, clean, and home-like environment by completing light housekeeping tasks and supporting the overall upkeep of the residence
- Support implementation of therapeutic services consistent with the program model, philosophy, and each resident’s individual treatment plan, with a focus on overnight routines
- Effectively manage crises that may arise during overnight hours, utilizing de-escalation strategies and seeking additional support as needed
- Use appropriate language and tone when setting expectations and limits for clients
- Implement and actively participate in the activity schedule with the goal of encouraging adaptive behaviors and improve social skills
- Assist and teach residents skills necessary for self-care and activities of daily living
- Participate in medication management for residents
- Provide transportation for residents as needed
- Complete documentation as required and assigned
- Maintain therapeutic and professional boundaries
- Comply with all contractual, licensing, and safety standards
- Maintain up to date certifications for CPR/First Aid and CPI
- Attend and participate in scheduled supervisions and LUK trainings
- Gain an understanding and commitment to LUK’s Mission, Vision, and Values and provide congruent services
Knowledge and Experience Required:
- Associate’s Degree in Human Services or closely related field preferred
- 1-5 years of experience working in a residential setting preferred
- Bilingual/bicultural candidates encouraged to apply

Salary Range and Benefits:
Pay Range: 12. Salary Range: $43,680 – $45,000. Salary ranges within each pay grade are based on qualifications, skills, and experience.
