Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) – DMV | Remote Project Consultant
Bitarchitects is looking for a licensed and experienced Mechanical Engineer to provide project-based support across a range of residential projects and other engineering assignments. The successful candidate must hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
This is a flexible remote opportunity suited for a mechanical engineering professional with strong knowledge of building systems, U.S. codes and regulations, and technical design review. The role involves working independently while coordinating with architects, engineers, and other project team members as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design, review, and coordinate MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems for residential projects, ensuring effective integration and coordination across all disciplines.
- Develop and review mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Review plans and designs for compliance with applicable U.S. building codes, jurisdictional requirements, and industry standards.
- Review construction drawings and documents and provide technical comments, recommendations, and revisions.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders throughout project assignments.
- Conduct occasional site visits within the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area when required for project assessments, coordination, or technical support.
- Assist with permitting documentation and respond to technical comments from authorities having jurisdiction.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations, and MEP engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
- Active licensure in more than one DMV jurisdiction is strongly preferred.
- Professional experience with the design and technical review of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and other mechanical building systems.
- Solid knowledge of U.S. mechanical codes, permitting processes, and applicable engineering standards.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar engineering and design platforms.
- Strong technical judgment, analytical ability, communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, organize assignments, and meet project deadlines in a remote setting.
Engagement Details
- Remote, project-based contract engagement with work assigned on a project-by-project basis.
- Flexible working arrangements depending on active project needs.
- Periodic travel to project sites within the DMV region may be required.
