Mid-Senior Remote 2D Animator – Retro Commercials

This role is ideal for a skilled 2D animator passionate about classic animation styles. You will be responsible for creating two 30-second animated commercials in a vintage cartoon aesthetic, referencing the iconic looks of Hanna-Barbera, UPA, and early Jay Ward productions. The first project involves designing original characters inspired by radio voices and delivering a finished spot with expressive, limited animation and a nostalgic color palette.

If the pilot is successful, a second commercial will follow, featuring both an existing mascot and a new character in the same visual style. The work is fully remote, and you may operate independently or as a small studio. The focus is on authenticity—no modern motion graphics or 3D, but genuine old-school animation that captures the warmth and simplicity of mid-century cartoons.

Deliverables

  • Design and develop original 2D characters based on provided references and audio
  • Produce two 30-second animated commercials in a classic limited-animation style
  • Create character model sheets and style guides to ensure visual consistency
  • Deliver expressive animation with economical movement, flat color, and a warm, nostalgic palette
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure brand and style requirements are met
  • Provide all final assets in required formats and meet project deadlines
Requirements
  • Proven experience in 2D animation with a strong portfolio showcasing retro or limited-animation work
  • Expertise in classic cartoon styles (Hanna-Barbera, UPA, Jay Ward, etc.)
  • Ability to design expressive characters and create model sheets
  • Proficiency with industry-standard animation software (e.g., Toon Boom, Adobe Animate, TVPaint)
  • Strong understanding of color theory and vintage animation aesthetics
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a small team
  • Availability for both initial and potential follow-up projects
  • Fully remote; must be able to manage time and deliverables effectively
