Lead Mainframe Storage Engineer

Job Description:

  • Configure and maintain IBM DS8000 series DASD and TS7700 Virtual Tape Servers
  • Manage TS7700 MI and DS8K HMCs
  • Design SMS configurations using the DFSMS suite
  • Manage data class, storage class, and management class rules
  • Oversee data replication, disaster recovery planning, and routine backups
  • Leverage DFHSM and DFDSS for backup and disaster recovery activities
  • Monitor storage utilization and forecast future space requirements
  • Plan infrastructure upgrades to prevent storage shortages
  • Write and maintain REXX automation scripts for routine storage operations and alerts
  • Add volumes to storage groups with insufficient capacity
  • Troubleshoot storage-related outages
  • Perform root cause analysis
  • Resolve dataset access issues
  • Execute complex storage migrations with minimal impact to production workloads
  • Provide a highly available Z Compute and Storage platform resilient against infrastructure failures, regional disasters, and cyber events
  • Support scalable, reliable, high-performing technology solutions aligned with Morgan Stanley’s technology goals

Requirements:

  • Deep knowledge of the IBM z/OS environment
  • Experience with IBM DS8000 series DASD and TS7700 Virtual Tape Servers
  • Experience with TS7700 MI and DS8K HMCs
  • Experience using the DFSMS suite to design SMS configurations and manage data, storage, and management class rules
  • Experience with data replication, disaster recovery planning, and routine backups
  • Experience with DFHSM and DFDSS
  • Experience monitoring storage utilization, forecasting space requirements, and planning infrastructure upgrades
  • REXX scripting experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot storage-related outages and dataset access issues
  • Root cause analysis experience
  • Proficiency with ICKDSF, IDCAMS, and IEBCOPY
  • Experience with tape management systems TLMS and RMM
  • Experience with Tivoli Advance catalog management
  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Advance allocation management for z/OS
  • Understanding of FICON connectivity
  • Understanding of z/OS access methods, including VSAM and QSAM
  • Ability to execute complex storage migrations with minimal impact to production workloads
  • Experience with Replication and PPRC protocols
  • Experience with Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and Global Copy
  • Experience with Cyber SafeGuarded Copy
  • Experience with Copy Services Manager and ESSNI
  • Experience with Hyperswap and Hyperwrite
  • Experience with Hyperlinks
  • Nice to have: certificate deployment and management for network connections
  • Nice to have: Python or Perl scripting
  • Nice to have: GDPS
  • Nice to have: Secure Vault (Cyber) physical and virtual isolation
