Field Worker Seasonal - Pumping & Production

The City of Wichita is NOT an E-Verify Employer. Distinguishing Features of Work This is seasonal work maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds and/or equipment. Employees may perform a variety of these tasks or focus on only one kind of task.

Work is supervised and inspected as needed for each situation. THIS IS A LIMITED FULL-TIME POSITION (NO BENEFITS) The day and hours for this position: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm Bargaining Unit: No Union Representation **Posting may come down at any time** Examples of Work Performed Specific duties depend on specific work location and activities. Performs basic maintenance and repair tasks.

Maintains golf carts, including battery replacement, oil changes, tire repair and other minor repairs. Performs basic carpentry, painting, sheetrock and/or plumbing work. Performs routine custodial and/or grounds maintenance tasks.

Performs basic irrigation work, including: changing heads, fixing leaks, and setting irrigation clocks. Participates in snow removal operations. Assists with response to emergency situations.

Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle. These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements of Work Some knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance work Some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance work Ability to use the hand tools, portable power tools and other equipment needed to complete work tasks Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed to complete work tasks To repetitively bend, twist, stoop, kneel, squat and reach as necessary to complete work tasks Ability to lift and carry bulky items, weighing up to 80 pounds, occasionally for a sustained period; heavier loads with the assistance of another person Ability to perform pulling and pushing activities with up to 40 lbs. of force Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hrs. per day Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather Ability to tolerate minor exposure to chemicals used in maintenance and repair tasks Ability to tolerate airborne environmental nuisances such as machine exhaust and dust, and wet, slippery surfaces Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships Ability to communicate orally clearly and effectively Ability to read, interpret and apply information contained in technical manuals and instructions Ability to shovel snow and lift the load up to four feet high, and/or operate power snow removal equipment Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Experience and Training Required Experience and Training Must be 18-years of age or older. Six months of experience performing basic maintenance and repair tasks, such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, groundskeeping, or custodial work. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

PreferredExperience and Training High school diploma, GED, or vocational degree in automotive, welding, carpentry, plumbing. electrical, small engine or generator maintenance. Work experience in automotive, welding, carpentry, plumbing.
