Electronics Failure Analysis Technician, Energy

<strong>What To Expect<br></strong>The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with large cross-sections of other engineering teams. The team is seeking a highly adaptable Electronics Failure Analysis Technician to investigate hardware failures across our Energy Products, including Powerwall, Megapack, and Supercharger systems. Based in our Tonsley facility, the person will be responsible for comprehensive, hands-on investigations into complex field returns. The work will span from system-level troubleshooting to detailed product teardowns, analyzing power electronics, mechanical assemblies, and battery systems down to the individual cell.<br><br>To be effective in this highly varied role, the person must be familiar with electrical component behavior and PCB testing and debugging tools. They will design and execute experimental tests, analyzing data to solve complex technical challenges. By working closely with engineering teams, they will help quickly determine root causes and implement countermeasures for field issues, ultimately enhancing product quality, reliability, and durability of Tesla products.<br><br><strong>What You'll Do<br><br></strong><li>Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components from Tesla’s Energy Products </li><li>Perform hands-on troubleshooting including electrical debug, component level inspection, rework, and functional testing to isolate failure modes </li><li>Work closely with engineers to help solve technical problems you spot </li><li>Develop and document clear step-by-step debug and test procedures for other technicians to use </li><li>Design and execute custom experiments and specialized test fixtures to investigate complex hardware failures. </li><li>Provide clear, concise reporting of test results, inspection findings, and technical issues </li><li>Ensure all testing activities adhere to safety protocols <br><br><br></li><strong>What You'll Bring<br><br></strong><li>Cert III in Electronics and Communications, Electrotechnology, or equivalent (higher qualifications are highly regarded).</li><li>Previous hands-on experience with PCB-level debugging, and electronics rework with a strong aptitude reading electronics schematics. </li><li>Demonstrable experience operating standard electrical test equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.), and proficiency with hand and power tools. </li><li>Nice to have a working knowledge of battery technologies, power electronics, or awareness of high voltage safety procedures.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in documenting test results and technical issues. </li><li>Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced lab environment. </li><li>Ability to lift 20 kg. <br><br><br></li><strong>Benefits<br></strong>In addition to a competitive compensation package, Tesla Australia & New Zealand is pleased to offer the following benefits for permanent employees:<br><li> Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) - Purchase Tesla stock twice per year at a 15% discount</li><li> Parental leave (no minimum employment period)</li><ul><li> Primary carers – 18 weeks at full pay or 36 weeks half pay</li><li> Secondary carers – 6 weeks full pay</li></ul><li>Miscarriage leave - 10 days</li><li> Employee Vehicle Loan Program</li><li> Novated Leasing (AU only)</li><li>Employee Vehicle Finance program (AU only) - Tesla subsidises your loan interest</li><li> Well-being Fund – An annual allowance of $950 USD for all employees to support their well-being in ways that are meaningful to them</li><li>Health insurance discounts (AU only)</li><li> Bike to work – $10 per day if you cycle to work</li><li>Employee Assistance Program - Free and confidential counselling for all staff and their families</li><li>Annual Flu Vaccines</li><li> Birthday Leave, Cultural Significance Leave and Volunteer Leave<br><br></li><em>Some eligibility criteria may apply, benefits detailed above are subject to change / withdrawal at Tesla’s discretion with no prior notice.<br><br></em>, Tesla
