Educational Assistant
<strong>Develop and implement educational and recreational activities at assigned Playground Recreation Program sites; ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children and provide responsible support to higher level staff.</strong><br><br><strong>This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.</strong><br><br><strong>This is an unclassified, at-will position designated as part-time and temporary, with a maximum term of two (2) years from the date of hire. Employment will automatically conclude two (2) years from the date of hire in accordance with City policy.</strong><br><br><em>Job descriptions are intended to present a general list of tasks/duties performed by employees within this job classification. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.<ol><li>Participate in the planning and provisions of appropriate educational activities to develop the social, emotional and cognitive abilities of young children; work with children to improve all developmental skills.</li><li>Assist in assessing the progress and needs of children; confer with appropriate staff any educational concerns.</li><li>Assist in the arrangement of indoor and outdoor environments to facilitate developmental learning.</li><li>Provide a safe and healthy learning environment both indoors and outdoors; assist in ordering and maintaining material for educational activities.</li><li>Provide assistance and information for program participants. </li></ol><strong>SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:</strong><ul><li>Perform Recreation Leader duties as necessary and/or assigned.</li><li>Perform other job related duties as necessary and/or assigned.</li></ul><div style="font-style: normal; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: inherit; text-indent: 0;"><p style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0; margin: 0 0 12pt;"><span style="font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: inherit;"><em>High school diploma or GED and supplemented by forty-eight (48) credit hours </em></span><span style="font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1);"><em>from an accredited college or university</em></span><span style="font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: inherit;"><em> to include fifteen (15) non-remedial hours in Math and English. </em></span></p></div><p data-pasted="true">Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.<br>Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.</p><div style="font-style: normal; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: inherit; text-indent: 0;"><br></div><strong>Environmental:</strong><br>Classroom and outdoor environments; exposure to communicable diseases and noise.<br><br><strong>Physical:</strong><br>Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for waling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting.
