Community Services Representative I (Transfer)
Under direct supervision, a Community Services Representative I may be assigned to community liaison duties in the field or at a community center or facility; assist citizens and community and neighborhood groups in identifying and accessing available services; assists in organizing and establishing neighborhood networks and systems designed to improve the quality of life and neighborhoods; performs related work as required.These functions may not be present in all positions of this class.<br>When a position is to be filled, the essential functions will be noted in the announcement of position availability.<br><br>As part of a neighborhood outreach team, provides information, referral, skill-building and other services to develop linkages, networks, communication and teamwork among residents, businesses and organizations within the neighborhoods to improve public safety and other quality of life concerns.<br><br>Participates in a range of activities, with a primary focus on bringing households together to form local networks and develop neighborhood systems.<br><br>Assists in establishing neighborhood linkages through working with targeted households or families which demonstrate high-risk or pre-delinquent behavior, to eliminate problems and establish working relationships.<br><br>Participates in neighborhood and empowerment activities which may include facilitating local community gatherings to address neighborhood issues.<br><br>Assists neighborhoods to establish local priorities and action plans to address such priorities.<br><br>Assists in developing skills of residents and groups to address priority neighborhood concerns and links residents or groups with resources to address or resolve local issues.<br><br>As a community liaison representative in a community center or facility, provides information and referral services to individuals and groups.<br><br>Assists in providing direct services offered at a community center, including the physical set-up, maintenance and security of a center.<br><br>Establishes and maintains liaison with community-based organizations and residents to promote a variety of community services and activities.<br><br>Provides liaison coordination with local and other governmental and community and service-providing agencies.<br><br>Prepares correspondence, reports and records as necessary.Education and/or Experience<br>Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance. Example combinations include: one year experience providing community service and knowledge of the local Pasadena community and resources.<br><br>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<br>Working knowledge of the Pasadena community and issues surrounding quality of life concerns; familiarity with basic community organization principles and activities.<br><br>Ability to plan, organize and implement neighborhood development services and activities; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, neighborhood and community groups, and service providing agencies; communicate and work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and assist them in using available resources; prepare and present oral and written reports; assess and comprehend community problems and recommend and implement appropriate courses of action.<div>Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license, or the ability to travel to different work sites in the city.</div>
